Both are true. People seek the exgay path in order to embrace biblical morality. "If your behavior is in conflict with your beliefs, you must change one or the other or live with unbearable tension." People who enter the exgay path *expecting* change in sexual feelings will end up as bitter exexgays. People who enter the exgay path in order to embrace biblical morality may find peace, recover from any compulsive or addictive behaviors they have, and be happier as celebate men or women with continued same-sex attractions than they were when acting on their acctraction. Some will discover they they have a potential for bisexuality -- they will be attracted both emtionally and physically to a specific woman that they fall in love with. They are happier with this new life than they were before. I believe that in the cases where there is the most fluidity -- a shift from Kinsey 6 to Kinsey 1 (and I know people like that) it's quite likely that they are were "naturally heterosexual" and this was displaced by childhood trauma. But according to some of their theoriest everyone is "naturally heterosexual" and *all* homosexuality is due to childhood trauma. I don't believe that for a minute. Also, they don't claim that they have the same generalized lust for sexy women that most heterosexual men display, they have sexual attractions for a specific woman whom they fall in love with. For our purposes, the starting point for the following two categories will always be exclusive or predominant homosexuality. Full Sexual Orientation Shift: This means a complete shift, or change, from homosexuality to heterosexuality. Simply adding some heterosexual behaviour to one's homosexuality is not enough. Change is necessary in behaviour, attraction, and fantasy. Homosexual behaviour, attractions and fantasy are eliminated. Heterosexual behaviour, attractions and sometimes fantasy take their place. The person's identification of himself or herself will usually change from homosexual to heterosexual. To be considered a full sexual orientation shift for the purposes of this paper, a person who was Kinsey 6 (exclusively homosexual) or Kinsey 5 (predominantly homosexual) must end up as Kinsey 0 (exclusively heterosexual). Partial Sexual Orientation Shift: In a full shift in sexual orientation, a person who was exclusively or predominantly homosexual ends up being exclusively heterosexual. The key is that there has been change, and that a person is truly attracted to the opposite sex. We will use this term only when a person who was exclusively or predominantly homosexual: is now attracted to the opposite sex; is now involved in heterosexual behaviour; is now, if sexually active, able to interact sexually with the opposite sex without homosexual fantasies. For the purposes of this paper, this category will only include exclusively homosexual persons (Kinsey 6) who became predominantly heterosexual (Kinsey 1) or mostly heterosexual but with a definite response to the same sex (Kinsey 2).
