In reply to OK I have a weird Question... submitted by Jake on July 06 2000 17:55:58

Hi Jake,

you brought up a lot of questions there.

Firstly, how can you still be a Christian if you're a boylover? Well, the thing is, there's more to being a boylover than the desire for sex. There's the desire to help the boy grow, to find his own place in the world, to make sure his needs for food and clothing and friendship are met. So even if it's right to deny the sex part, there's still a lot of good we can do for boys, motivated by the love we have for them.

Next, what the Bible says about being gay, and what Christians say the Bible says about being gay, you know, there are in fact a lot of Christians who say your friend is plain wrong, that, from what can be understood from the Bible, there's no sense forbidding same-sex relationships. Now them saying that doesn't make them correct, no more then your friend is correct simply from saying she is, but it gives you something to think about. We can discuss the particular verses and meaning of Bible bit by bit, or give some references, if you like. But remember, some great Christians think it's just fine.

Now for your last question, about going to hell and about what God does for gay people, the point of the Christian faith is that no one gets into heaven, gay or straight, just from being what they are. Our only way to God is through Jesus dying for us, and he made that sacrifice for all of us, both gay and straight. So it seems to me a very odd thing to say "God doesn't do anything for gay people". He's already done everything for them!

We can talk more about these things if you like. Thanks for dropping by, and keep well.
