When your YF is growing up

Posted by Cat on 2009-03-26 21:41:42, Thursday

In just a few months my yf will be turing 14.

When I stoped and thought about that the other day it made me cry.

I've known him since he was 11 and I'm so grateful for the oppertunity I've had to be part of his boyhood.

Now that he's leaving it behind I do so look forward to watching him grow into a young man and face the adventure that is adult life. This will be a real first for me. All my previous YFs have been taken out of my life before they wandered out of my AOA. I have to confess I'm a bit scared.

I would hate to find out that my love for him dwindles when he's no longer a boy... I would really feel that it had all been so superficial if it did. I know I have a few significant young adults who are my friends (my own sons included) and some same age adults that I also love very dearly so I feel confident that I will always love him.... but what of that particular love I feel for him now? The love that came into my heart becuase he was a boy.

~sigh~

This is one of those tough boylover seasons.

On the plus side, his growing up will mean more oppertunity to hang out with him without haveing to worry about his parents or my wife's concern regarding my intentions. It will also mean a maturing adult friendship between us which comes with so many of it's own rewards.... and one day... God willing... I may even get to be there for his kids (sigh)... that would be so wonderful.

Blessings
Cat.
