There are so many ways to look at the meaning of the word Sin. But what it is like can be expressed also in many ways as I have found and would like
to share. Leighton said: "Sin is first pleasing, then it grows easy, then delightful then frequent, then habitual, then confirmed; Then the man is impenitent, then he is obstinate, then he is resolved never to repent. and then he is ruined." Barrow said; Sin is never at a stay; If we do not retreat from it, we shall advance in it; And the further on we go, the more we have to come back." Read Matt.12:43-45. That I would like to add to the above. Tryon Edwards put it this way: "It is not true that there is no enyoyment in the ways of sin; there are many and various.-But the great and radical defect of them all is. that they are transitory and unsubstantial, at war with reason and conscience, and always leave a sting behind." We are hungry, and they offer us bread; but it is poisoned bread. We are thirsty, and they offer us drink; but it is from deadly fountains. They may and often do satisfy us for the moment; but it is death in the end." I do not have to tell you of the truth of these words; and that how we can see that the bible shows us that as Christans we are at war.-And what we wish to be tommorrow is what we must work on each day. For I am by the wonderful Grace of God, and the faith that I keep alive by the work I do on myself, dead to my fleshly desires, and alive to the Hope and Love that I am finding in God, and His Son, Jesus the Christ. |
