I have had this same situation happen to me. What I did was I talked to my wife before hand about it and was honest about my feelings. And that I loved her with all my heart and giving my YF a gift in no way changed my feelings for her. I told her that he was a like a son to me and that she should care about the boys feelings also. I know my wife is different than yours so I don't know how she will view it, but my wife appreciated the honesty and let go of her own insecurities and said it was OK.
