Last Friday I decided to go to the movies with my Pastor and his wife, who are also very good friends of mine. We were all excited because THE movie of the summer was finally here at our little theater and we were finally going to get to see it. What movie? "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen", of course. And we could hardly wait either because of all the hype from TV and trailers and such. AND the first movie was such a big hit as well. As it turned out, my friends decided to walk out of the theater not even halfway through the flick because they were so discusted by what they saw. I stayed until the end because it didn't dawn on me why they had such a strong reaction until after the movie...plus I am kind of a cheapo and hate to waste a good ticket and popcorn. It was when I got home that I finally got it and have decided that this movie is terrible. Oh it's well done, don't get me wrong. The special effects are superb and the acting is first rate. The story line is predictable, but that is easily forgiven if you love action-filled science fiction type movies. The thing I object to the most is: 1., This movie contains a LOT more language, violence, sexual innuendo and sexually explicit scenes, and even some drug use. 2., When I think about what age demographic this movie is really aimed at, I must object to it wholeheartedly. This is a VERY adult movie that is targeted at young boys. Of course adults love it, that is undenailble. But who is this movie really aimed at? Even my friend the Pastor leaned over and said to me, just minutes into the film, "This has got to be every young boy's dream!" I think he was sorry he had said that after about twenty minutes or so. And there were a lot of young boys in the audience, probably there along with thier parents (who were probably just as unsuspecting as I was, no doubt). Believe me, this is definately NOT a movie I would want to take a young child to go see; and yet it was derived from a toyline that gained unbelievable popularity in the 1980's. Based on that, there have been several comic book series, animated movies and a very popular TV series...all aimed at young pre-teen boys. I believe the Transformers have withstood the test of time because they seem to have lost none of thier popularity with the kids PLUS the kids of the '80's are now parents with kids of thier own. And I am sure the older "kids" aren't expecting to see the kind of stuff that is in this new Transformers movie when they take thier young sons to go see it. Sadly I heard a lot of people react to the movie with much enthusiasm, but I also saw quite a few confused looks on the faces of parents walking out with thier kids after the movie. I do not recomend this movie for children and I would also love to see a boycott of it. I also give it a huge "thumbs down" for targeting kids with this kind of adult stuff. I think it's shameful. Anyway, let me know what you think if you have seen it. ![]() |
