I've never had a problem about predestination. To me it's clear that God, as God, is outside of time which means that He can see time from one end of it to the other: he knows the beginning and the end of every story before it's even begun but it doesnt mean that he is predetermining a single moment of it. We know He doesnt do that because He tells us over and over that we are responsible for our own lives. Why would He tell us that if it weren't true?
You know that bit where Jesus says: if anyone hinder my little ones from coming to me and then the millstone bit? (I'm deliberately not going to look it up). I think that might well apply to those who slip predestination into their sermons without pausing to remember those weaker ones amongst us who will be tempted to give up before they even get started on the road because they convince themselves that 'God probably hadn't chosen them anyway'.
Noone loves the idea of predestination more than the devil himself. The very idea that any human being can actually claim to know who the elect are (and therefore also who they are NOT) is utterly appalling to me.
