It seems like if you go along with the stereo-types in music, then you are a good gay, but if you cross the line into music that gays aren't supposed to like or be into, then oh Lord have mercy! It's a shame because I'm sure a lot of gays and BL's are into a whole range of music, the Blues included. That's why I love someone like Jason Ricci so much, he defies the stereo-typical nonsense. I will check into that group you mention, Tea Party. I'm a huge Led Zeppelin fan from way back, so this should be quite interesting. I think I've heard of Jeff Martin from somewhere.

I don't know about Death Metal, but there have been some gay heavy metal and hard rock performers in the 70's and 80's. Rob Halford, the singer for Judas Priest is gay and has been rocking out for a long, long time. Personally I think it's really funny that he is gay because I remember when I was in High School that Judas Priest was always thought of as this super tough, bad-ass band (which I still think of them like that, actually). No one would have dreamed that he was gay...well no one at my High School, anyway. And I suspect it was the same all over in the late 70's, early 80's. Well, maybe not in cities where there were large gay comunities...I don't know. Ok, then of course there is Queen, with the late, great Freddie Mercury. He was completely out of the closet and LOVED to rock! I've got a great DVD of a concert they did in London not too long before he got really sick, but he was in great form and man did that group rock! One of my biggest regrets is that I never got to see them play before he died. I know they have a new singer now and he is supposed to be really good, but I don't know. No one can replace Freddie as far as I'm concerned. But I've always kind of marveled at how well most straight hard-rockers would (and still do...although we are older now..) accept Freddie Murcury as being cool even though they would normally hate and shun anyone who is gay. Personally I have always loved Queen and always will.

Then there was the New York Dolls, which I am still unsure if they were gay or just looked that way. Then there was that band, Sweet. A one hit wonder type band who did that song "Ballroom Blitz". They both looked and sounded gay, although I am not sure if they were. But with a band name like "Sweet"...hmmmm. But Death Metal, I don't know. I wouldn't be too surprised if there are at least a few closeted Death Metal performers and fans who are gay.
