you're being pretty hard on yourself here and probably too hard. At 12, someone should have been there to pick you up out of it, even if that meant a kick up the proverbial backside. On the other hand I can see how thinking about it that way might be more of a hindrance for you than a help. What's done is done and you need to be able to move on.
