To tell you the truth, I joined the military years ago because jobs were scarce and I needed to get the heck out of my dad's house. Living with my dad was driving us both crazy. Those were my main reasons for joining. Of course it was peace time, so for me it was kind of like a regular job with fairly good benefits. Like Blackstone said, there is a very good chance you could be seeing some action now. However, many young men have served in the military and have served in Iraq or Afganistan and have come home alright. If things are driving you THAT crazy at home, then maybe you should reconsider enlisting.
