I couldn't find that story to link to it, so I will just re-tell the story from an email I sent to a good friend of mine. Here it is, the very best Christmas I ever spent with my YF:

He was about 10 years old when this happened. First of all you have to understand that
he lived with his mom and she frequently had boyfriends either coming and going or
sometimes living with them. Some of them were ok, some were definitely NOT. I don't
think she had one living with her when this happened. In fact I know she didn't because
as I recall she was having a really hard time paying her electric bill and I had to take
"L" in for about a week because she had no heat. So it looked like it was going to be
a fairly bleak Christmas for my little buddy. Well you KNOW I wasn't about to let that
happen!

At that time I was working for a wholesaler as a stock person and delivery person. Guess
what we wholesaled? Toys! That's right, it was a little kid's dream come true. And
during Christmas they opened up the showroom for retail sales. So about a week before
Christmas I brought "L" into the store and told him to look around and let me know if
he saw anything he liked. Of course he just went nuts and pointed out all kinds of
stuff, including this big hockey game. I just followed him around with a little pad of
paper and made notes when he wasn't looking. The next day I went shopping right after
work and got pretty much everything on the list...including the big hockey game. Oh it
was going to cost me a bunch of money, but I didn't care. How could I say no to my
"L"? He just HAD to have the best Christmas ever.

Well, Christmas day rolled around and I went and picked him up at his mom's. I had
already told her what I had done and that she didn't have to worry about Christmas that
year, which she was very relieved to hear. She really was having a hard time of it.
Man, you should have seen his eyes when he looked under our Christmas tree and saw
all the gifts for him. It was a job wrapping them all, and the big hockey game I just
couldn't wrap because I literally ran out of wrapping paper. So I stashed it in my
bedroom and when he was done opening everything else I told him that I thought that maybe
Santa had left yet another surprise in the bedroom. He just about went ballistic when he
saw what was in there; it was so cool. Of course I got about a million hugs and a whole
bunch of "I love you's" that day. It was the best Christmas I have ever
had.

Anyway, there is the story. It is something that will stick in my mind and my heart
forever. Every Christmas I like to remember that one because it was so much fun.

Chris
