on the subject of archetypes, my own feeling is that it is probably the most urgent and testing aspect of a spiritual life 'lived' that all such 'images' of God are gradually displaced and ultimately discarded.
When atheists talk about God they inevitably have their own inner images of the God that they do not believe in and of course we all have those. [The only atheist I could really respect would be one who had spent at least five years in fairly rigorous regular prayer and study before making up his mind.]
Concepts of the trinity continue to worry me on a daily basis: language creates as many barriers as it dismantles. C'est la vie.
