It's always interesting to hear of God doing 'odd' things in people's lives. I think you'd do well to look to be more open to such guidings in the future; sometimes such things allow God to achieve something which would be very hard to do otherwise. He may have a particular thing He's preparing for you, and used this as an opener to help you pay attention more in the future - after all telling a BL he's going to see his YF is always going to get the BL's attention...
