One thing I have learned about forgiveness is that you can do it without even feeling like doing it. Forgiveness is a decision, not a feeling. We must decide to forgive someone, and then do it. Of course there are feelings attached to it, just like anything else, but this is one area in our lives where we usually have to tell our feelings where they can get off. You do have the will to forgive anyone of anything if you look at it like that. It isn't an easy thing to do, but it is the right thing to do.

I have had to forgive some family members of mine of some very serious and bad things. I have made the decision to forgive them and have done all the things I needed to do in order to make it happen. The only thing I couldn't do is contact them and tell them that I forgive them. This is because of personal reasons in that I do not feel safe comunicating with them. However, I have still forgiven them in my heart. At first it was really difficult because I wanted to rehurse all of the wrong things they did to me in my mind, so I had to make myself quit that. Sometimes the old hurts do come up and I have to remind myself again and again that I have decided to forgive them.

Try looking at forgiveness that way and see what you think. It works for me and I'm sure it will work for you too.

Chris
