The denomination is not terribly important. The fact you have so many churches around you is a blessing. Take the time to visit a wide variety of them. If you know any Christians at work or school or wherever, ask them about their church.

You will never find a perfect church. Your search will never end if you seek perfection. But you can find a church where you feel comfortable, where you are able to learn, to worship, to fellowship, and to serve. There are always going to be some things you don't fully agree with or that you find less than optimal, but the key is to know which of those things you can learn to put up with and which you can't. Don't waste your time in a church with a flaw you can't live with, but consider giving the church with the flaw that you can live with a second chance if you liked everything else about it.

Personally, the only major Christian denominations I would avoid are the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons), and the Jehovah's Witnesses. Although I have met some wonderful people who are of those faiths and I believe their faith in Christ and acceptance of the gift of salvation makes them just as saved as I, their beliefs are too far beyond the mainstream; more importantly, the amount of control they attempt to exert upon their congregation is troubling.
