We were never close in that sense but there was something between us anyway although I never understood it. I was a teacher in his school in a small village and interaction was difficult. His background was desperate (his family all killed in a housefire and he was being brought up by grandfather who drank). He was the village thief and hated by most everyone. He was never in a class that I taught and he was never a yf in the way that yours was I think but he changed my life anyway. He is presently in prison for numerous small offences.
