I doubt I shall see my yf again until he becomes totally independent from his family, maybe in about 2 years time. But I know he knows that I will always be here for him. He has also inquired through a mutual friend to hear if I'm OK.
It may do him good not rely on me so much for accommodation and transport etc. I believe that he has now left home and he has much better friends than he used to have.
