The following I found from a devotional, I think it fits to the topic.


[...] There are people who say it is not a man's own fault if he gets lost and will perish; he seems to be predestinated for that fate. They prove it with verses like 1Pe 2:8 "... those are set to be offended by the word..."

But the truth is different. From the context we see the true meaning of these words: v6 speaks from that cornerstone, if you believe in him you will not perish. At that point you have to make a decision - part of the people believe in him and are saved. But for those who don't believe he will be the stone of perish and trouble. They don't want to obey the word of redemption and changing of mind. God does not predestinate any man to be evil or disobedient. But if man is permanently despising his offer of grace, then those are set to be offended from that stone while they are annoyed about Jesus.

What shall God do with those who despise his son and his grace? Shall he leave them without punishment? Many believe he will. But those who refuse his grace will undoubtedly experience his wrath. God is merciful and holy.
