1) What do you see as the right reason and how are your reasons wrong? Your reason, if I understood it correctly, sounded like one of the typical reasons people join the military; I didn't see anything wrong with it.
2) So? If the alternative is to find yourself in exactly the same position you are now six months from now, isn't shipping out to start your new career a much better place to be? I mean, really...six months from now, you will be somewhere; would you rather that be at home moping about like you are now and hating your environment, or beginning a career in a new environment and making something of yourself? Obviously, the military is one of many options and I don't mean to make it sound like your only way out. But it is an option you came up with, which leads me to believe it is a path you are interested in and would find acceptable. I wouldn't recommend the military for everyone, but having known many people for whom enlistment was the first step in a rewarding and lucrative career, I highly encourage anyone interested in taking that route to go for it. However, keep in mind that in the current military, it doesn't matter whether you are in the Army, Navy, Air Force, or Marines or whether you are in the national guard or reserves; every service member is eligible to go kick doors down in Iraq. You shouldn't join if you are unwilling to deploy if called upon. |
