Yes it was...in 1621, the first pilgrims to come to America, a.k.a. The New World, decided it would be a great idea if they could come up with a party where it would give them an excuse to kill lots of turkeys and eat them. They wanted to impress the local natives of thier hunting and cooking skills, and also introduce them to alcohol, so that they could more easily rob them of thier land later on. It was a huge success, and we still celebrate it today with turkey, stuffing, beer and football. In fact, I believe football was invented on that first Thanksgiving when a very drunk Pilgrim threw an entire pumkin at a very drunk native man who had pissed him off the day before. The Indian caught the pumpkin and chased the other guy around and around with it and before long people were taking sides and teams were formed and someone named it the NFL. At that time, "NFL" stood for "Not For Long" because the Pilgram women would be very angry over the foolish behavior of thier husbands...which is another tradition carried on today. So you see, the holiday of Thanksgiving is a much loved and cherished tradition in the United States.
