It's not just the facts that matter.... truth must be spoken in love (Eph 4:15).
How can you best represtent the truth in a loving way. If you know that certian information will muddy the truth because of the preconcieved ideas of those in power, is it really loving to disclose that information? "He who covers over an offense promotes love, but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends." Proverbs 17:9 The sentiment of this passage is not to keep revisiting someone's past mistakes but bearing with them in a spirit of forgiveness. It's not quite the situation you describe but it does illustrate that it is sometimes appropriate, in love, to not put every "fact" on display for all the world to see.
