On the one hand, most convictions of innocent people seem to have one thing in common: someone who thought he had nothing to hide, or even that he might be able to help, winds up incriminating himself despite being innocent.
On the other hand, if people didn't cooperate with police, no crime would ever be solved. That's the kind of mentality that allows crime to flourish in impoverished neighborhoods. It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario. I often wonder what I would do if approached by police. I suppose it would depend on what I know. |
