Interestingly this is not a biblical question.
The reason I say that is because baptism was so ASSUMED as an integral, early stage of the Christian journey in the New Testament record that no one would have separated being Christian from the experience of baptism. In the early church all Christians were baptised.... it was as simple as that. In Acts 19 (for instance) Paul comes across the Ephesian believers and asks if they have recieved the promice of the Holy Spirit when they believed. When they tell him that they haven't even heard of the Holy Spirit, Paul immediately asks, "then into what were you baptised?" The expectation is that if you believe you will be baptised... and without much delay. Certainly in the modern world there may be some people, perhaps even some denominations, that see baptism as optional... but overall most churches take a pretty strong stand on baptism early in the Christian journey in one form or another. My question to you is, why would this person you speak of not be baptised if they believe in Jesus? Blessings Cat. |
