The doctor tells me I'm supposed to be getting more exersize, but I still love to watch movies. Maybe I will buy myself one of those Ipods...so I can watch movies wherever I go. Anyway, here is an excellent movie that I saw this week. It stars Jimmy Bennett as a tempermental 11 year old son of a mom who is an over-the-road trucker and who hasn't seen him since she left her husband 10 years prior. He is dropped off on her door step by his step mom because his dad is in the hospital with colon cancer. No wonder he is tempermental. In fact he is confused, angry and depressed and aims most of his feelings at the mom he hasn't seen since he was 1. Michelle Monaghan plays the mom brilliantly and Jimmy Bennett is also brilliant in this heart-ripping, heart-warming drama. Surprisingly, one of the best features of this film is the musical score, which at times manages to actually work it's way into the story line. I love it when a director can do something like that. I'm not much of a Country Music fan, but the music in this movie fits it so well because Peter (Jimmy Bennett's character) is a big fan of country music and the kind of music in this film has such a fine, haunting nature to it that it fits right in. You gotta love steel guitar!
If you love Jimmy Bennett or if you simply love movies about mother-son and father-son relationships and love, you will love this movie. |
