A wider perspective on history and cultures shows us that sexual contact between men and boys was common in ancient cultures (e.g. classical Greece) and is common in Afghanistan to this day. In those cultures the 'common sense' would be that such relationships are good for both the boy and the man. We believe the opposite - and label that 'common sense'. You go further and insist that 'common sense' says avoid the risk at all...
You may be right, you may be wrong, but to use 'common sense' as the basis for an argument is at best lazy. And from a Christian perspective, 'common sense' strongly suggests that a 33 year old man dying in agony on a Roman cross nearly 2000 years ago is unlikely to make a big difference to me! |
