Although I agree with everything you say, I think that the proposed definition in DSM-5 is a step forward. Like the definition in the pre-revision DSM-IV, it once again allows for pedophiles (pedohebephiles using the new definition) who suffer from no mental disorders. Being a pedophile alone will no longer be considered a mental disorder in and of itself if the current proposed language in DSM-5 is accepted. Although I see more room for improvement, I think that's a very positive step forward. I hope that this time around, the psychiatric community will have the guts to stand up for science in the face of political pressure and resist the inevitable push to revert to a less accurate but more politically friendly definition like they did with the last DSM.
