Lately, I've had to deal with the unfortunate possibility that the reason God put me in my YFs life was so that I could lead him through the last moments of his short life. As I've pondered this development and been faced with so many conflicting emotions, it has occurred to me that whether this happens or not, whether his life ends in the next few weeks or long after I have left the Earth, that this is always why God brings people into our life. It is magnified in this instance by the unusually small time scale, but shouldn't our goal with every person we care about be to prepare them for death? to ensure they go to the right place when they die? Isn't that the call? Isn't that what being fishers of men means? Are you a fisher of boys...?
