Some years ago, real time chat functionality was added to our forum. Although many of us felt it was a great idea and envisioned it as an important form of communication for our community, it never quite took off. Several people have tried a variety of strategies for getting some use out of the chat room, but thus far all have failed and the chat remains a seldom used feature of our forum. As with all software on the internet, the chat needs to be maintained regularly in order to ensure its continued security and reliability. Since it is rarely used, the moderators have decided that maintaining the chat room is not worth the effort. However, we all agree that it would be a wonderful tool if we ever really got it going properly and it would be worth maintaining at that point. Therefore, this post is an open invitation for someone to step forward and implement a strategy that will make the chat a useful part of our forum. In the past, we have attempted to have scheduled chat times and we have attempted to simply post an announcement that the chat is open whenever we happen to be using it. Neither strategy has worked before although you are welcomed to try either again. This is the last chance for the real time chat component, if no one steps up or if this last attempt fails, the chat functionality will be removed from the forum for the foreseeable future.
