The realism I see in this movie is not necessarilly the actions, but the emotions. While how the kids each reacted to their feelings wasn't beyond the realm of possibility, it wasn't how most kids would react. By having the kids act out on the strong emotions many kids feel, the movie illustrates just how strongly these emotions are felt. Many adults don't think kids can have such overpowering and deep feelings. So I guess I'm just saying in a different way what you said, Blackstone. Having the kids act out makes a much deeper impact on the viewer than mere introspection ever could.
