There was a period of time where I was going through a fairly severe depression. I wound up seeing a shrink about it and he put me on an SSRI. The psychotherapy was pointless, but the SSRI did help. But it helped because of its effects on depression, not because of its effects on libido. I don't see any value at all in lowering your libido unless you have a problem controlling your sexual urges.
I didn't notice that side effect until after I got off the medication. While I was on it, it seemed normal. When I got off it I felt like I was 13 again because of how often I was feeling sexually aroused. It was at least a few weeks of feeling like a horny kid again before I started feeling normal. Of course, this may not have been an issue had I done things properly and weaned myself off the medication per the doctor's orders, instead I wound up quitting cold turkey when I stopped going to the shrink because I didn't need him anymore. I really see no point in lowering your sex drive. An SSRI will be helpful if you are going through depression. Otherwise, what's the point of having a lower sex drive? Your sex drive will still be towards boys regardless of how strong it is. |
