I'll never forget when we lost 'wantsons' from BM - he tagged his suicide post onto the end of an old thread about some unrelated topic, and none of his friends saw it for a few days. I finally blundered into it. Well, quick investigation turned up a guy in the bustling boylover burg of Kansas City who had his cellphone number, since he was local there. I paid the online fee and got his real name and address - we got ahold of his ex-wife. She said he'd gone off into the bush one other time and tried to kill himself and he'd probably done the same again, successfully this time, since no one had heard from him for over a week. She seemed quite angry. I googled his name from time to time for at least a year after that. There was no obit, no news story, no further work awards or published charitable donations or other web indications of life. My feeling is that he did schmoosh himself. Very nice guy, and not obviously distressed before this happened. No scandal, no threat of scandal, nothing external to push him over.
