I have to make this kind of brief but I wanted to put in a few words about this movie. I just saw the new Karate Kid movie this last Sunday and just loved it. Ok, yes it is pretty much the very same story as the origional Karate Kid, (1984, starring Ralph Machio and Pat Morita as Mr Miyagi), but I think there are enough differences in the story to make this one interesting and fresh. Jaden Smith (son of actor Will Smith) stars as a 12 year old boy who moves to China from Detroit with his mom. When they get there he soon has a lot of trouble with some local boys who are bullys and who are also heavily into Kung Fu. So he becomes friends with the local handy man (wonderfully played by Jackie Chan) who teaches the boy Kung Fu. This movie is actually a lot more than just another remake of an older movie, I think, because both Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan bring a freshness to the story that makes it exciting all over again. They have a wonderful bond and friendship that you can tell goes beyond the actual movie. This is a good movie to bring your YF to see, or just go see it by yourself. Either way you will love it.
