Hahaha ... how true. But seriously folks... no, Godspell, not quite - having extra wives just shows a sensual, self-serving attitude - see the Titus quote below. It's scarcely possible to take a second wife without being very callous with the first. The person you have become 'one flesh' with (Mark 10:8 etc.) has to graft via you to yet another flesh. This idea is never even given the time of day. Jesus just assumes the man would try to go for divorce instead of bigamously marrying. (So does Malachi). Titus 1:5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you would set in order what remains and appoint elders in every city as I directed you, 6 namely, if any man is above reproach, the husband of one wife, having children who believe, not accused of dissipation or rebellion. 7 For the overseer must be above reproach as GodÂ’s steward, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not addicted to wine, not pugnacious, not fond of sordid gain, 8 but hospitable, loving what is good, sensible, just, devout, self-controlled, 9 holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. Eccl 9:9 Enjoy life with the woman whom you love all the days of your fleeting life which He has given to you under the sun; for this is your reward in life and in your toil in which you have labored under the sun. Not easy passages for BLs to read, but heteros do need some counselling about these matters. |
