I was writing a post just before I read your reply where I was expressing the view that the greatest danger which confronts the church today is the rise of fundamentalism: in the face of almost incomprehensible complexity, it is the desire to either retreat into a simpler, easier world where black is black and white is white or to come out with fists flying against various elements of a secular world perceived as wrong and dangerous. I suppose the rise of these evangelical churches is a symptom of that. The question is, how do the established churches then respond?
