I've noticed similar themes in his writing. I also think a person can be fascinated with a subject without it being reflective of their own character in any immediate sense. For instance, a person could be fascinated by serial killers and explore that in their writing without possessing any such tendencies themselves. I have various thematic obsessions but only some of those directly reflect my own personality.
