At one stage of my life I befriended five 13 yr old boys who came to my house each day and when another one joined the group I sensed that he was such a sensitive lost soul that I had to ignore him and left the other boys to help him along. Shortly he came to me and asked if I’d mind if he could come to live in my house as his stepfather was abusing him physically. He stayed for 3 years until aged 16 and then never heard him until 20 years later when he brought his 11 yr old stepson to be cared for, who visited me for the next six years.

Both boys turned out to be paedophobic and the 1st boy did comment soon after he moved-in that I appeared to have ignored him to start with!
