The confusion here is that EI seems to be committed to the idea that people can change 100%, so that they never experience a same sex attraction again. I think that is too much to expect; what however IS the case is:
1) People's sexuality changes over the years; people who had identified themselves as gay come to have straight relationships 2) Some gay people can marry people of the opposite sex and have fulfilling marriages. 3) For those of us who regard same sex sexual activity as 'inherently disordered', yet are tempted by it, need support to cope with what we believe to be temptation. 4) If we believe in religious freedom, then the proclamation that 'sex sexual activity as inherently disordered', must be accepted as legitimate, however unfashionable / politically incorrect it comes to be. In the context of the above, the way that EI has proceeded has been remarkably confusing; I've looked at their website and not found any clarity about what they do now believe. Have they abandoned the view that gay sex is always wrong, or have they merely moved away from the idea that same sex attractions are 'curable'? I'm assuming it's the latter, though there are ministries that have done the full 100% reversal. And of course the gay community would love it to be the latter... |
