1) There are lots of ways to answer why there are so many 'rapture' videos, ranging from a deliberate pattern of deception, through a tendency to misinterpret what the dreams showed, to being influenced in dreams which are merely normal dreams, not inspired, by ideas from films and books that you have read. Whilst I am a sceptic about the Rapture, it's on my list of teachings that I hope ARE true. And given that believing it or otherwise shouldn't actually make much difference to how we live, it's not something I get very wound up about.
By contrast my preference that gay relationships ARE OK, but my belief that they aren't has a radical impact on my lifestyle... 2) Within the Protestant community, which emerged as a result of the Reformation, there are two major groups, Calvinists and Lutherans. Some of the followers of Calvin - the 'Reformed' and 'Presbyterian' churches have taken his ideas further than he did. One of those ideas is that the bible is complete in itself, and there is no longer any need for further 'prophecy'; they find scriptural warrant for this in I Cor 13 where "9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears." interpreting the perfect as the bible. This is a doubtful interpretation in my opinion, not least because the role of prophecy is far wider than just forming scripture. Hope that makes sense! |
