Given the stings that get people into trouble, and the fact that many of us are totally in the closet, it doesn't happen fast. There IS a risk involved. Do start posting and get to know people - you'll need to trigger some reactions with some interesting stuff. Starting to exchange emails is sometimes the next step - using an anonymous email address without an IP location attached maintains anonymity longer. Only then you may possibly met up - or maybe just chat on line on Skype. So yeah - it can happen - but given the board attracts people from all over the world, the probability that anyone you get to know here will be close to you geographically is quite low! OTOH when meetings do happen they ARE great fun; for possibly the first time you are with other people who have the same ISSUE - and you don't have to hide it for a change...
