I think that the charity you did will be very helpful to that boy, whoever he may be. While the questions that nag you about "could I have done more?" do bring a relevant point, it would probably be best if you not get caught up with what you could have done, what you did do, I'm sure, provided some temporary relief to the boy. Perhaps if he's drawn back you can enact your other plans to do more for him, if you want to.
