One of the sillier arguments of those who don't get 'tradition' in the church is to suggest that because they can find an example of a particular behaviour in the early church, it's reasonable to adopt that attitude today. This is a fundamental misunderstanding of how the process works; we start from the fact that the Holy Spirit is at work in the church. If a tradition persists and it is not contrary to the scriptures, then it is reasonable to assume that the Holy Spirit hasn't guided the church to reject it. If however it has disappeared from the church in a few years, it's probably not of God. So the fact that you can find a group with weird beliefs doesn't prove that that is of God.
A curious theory indeed. Of course, if one is using this to assert that, say, the first few pages of Genesis (and most of the things in red letters) are bullshit, and it is not a false morality which probably involves shame of having genitals which is our only seperation from freedom without taboos in a vast garden which is the inheritance we have been given... then you'll have to accept the vast majority of churches that found that one little line next to, and with the same seriousness as, prohibitions against cotton/poly blends mean nothing and started gay-marrying people. What's it going to be? I mean, since you've set man up as the pinnacle, do you still accept your own words? However thank you for adding to my collection of wacky Christian groups. :) Glad to be of service. They're usually the best. |
