Survey for BLs & nonBLs: What d'you think of ped.?

I've been reading L. R. Holben's What Christians Think About Homosexuality, an excellent book that was recommended to me on the same day by a pro-gay activist and an ex-gay man. Holben, in an impartial manner, answers twelve questions about homosexuality from the perspective of six representative viewpoints.

The moment I read through the list of questions, it occurred to me that all of the questions could be asked about pedophilia. I'm therefore reprinting the twelve questions below, along with some introductory questions of my own. The questions can all be answered as briefly or as lengthily as you wish.

What I would like to do is to reprint the answers at my site Unconditional Love, as a way to promote discussion on the moral issues surrounding pedophilia. If you do not wish your answers to be reprinted at my site, just say so; otherwise, I'll assume that you're willing to allow your answers to be reprinted. If you would like to have your answers reprinted under an alternative nickname, just say so.

My apologies if I offend anyone by using the word "pedophile" in the questions. I use the word simply to mean "minor-attracted adult" – I wanted to make the questions as broad as possible, so that minor-attracted adults who don't identify as boylovers or girl-lovers could answer the survey.

Some of Holben's questions are aimed at specifically at Christians; if you aren't Christian, just skip or reword these questions to suit your perspective (for example, if you're Jewish, you could say "God" instead of "Christ" in Questions 10 through 12). If you feel uncomfortable answering any of the questions (particularly Questions A through E), feel free to skip them, and if you don't know the answers (as I didn't to several of them), feel free to say that.

Holben introduces the questions by saying, "Questions 1 through 8 have to do with presuppositions. Question 9 is the moral conclusion reached as a result of those presuppositions. Questions 10 through 12 deal with the practical consequences of that conclusion for individuals, churches and society at large."

My Questions (optional)

A. Are you male or female?

B. Are you an adult or a minor?

C. What group of people are you attracted to? (For example: adolescent boys, prepubescent girls, men, women.)

D. If you belong to a community that in some way deals with pedophilia, what is that community? (For example: boylove, sexual recovery, child advocacy.)

E. What word(s) best describes your religious beliefs? (For example: Protestant, Atheist.)

Holben's Questions (reworded to refer to pedophilia)

1. What is the ultimate authority upon which any moral judgment regarding pedophiles and/or pedophile acts is to be based?

2. What is the God-given intent or design for human sexuality?

3. What are the necessary criteria for morally legitimate sexual expression?

4. Is there a "pedophile condition" (orientation) and, if so, what is its cause or origin?

5. Can a legitimate moral distinction be made between a pedophile condition (orientation) and pedophile acts?

6. What is the psychological significance of pedophilia?

7. What is the spiritual significance of pedophilia?

8. Can a pedophile become a non-pedophile (the question of "cure)?

9. What is the moral opinion arrived at, given the responses to Questions 1 through 8?

10. What is the personal call of Christ for the pedophile?

11. What is the pastoral call of Christ to the church on the issue?

12. What is the political call of Christ to society on the issue?
