Hmmm. Interesting you should mention the rich young man. Have you thought about the point of that story honestly? The point is not that the young man was forgiven for not selling his goods because it was too hard; Jesus never asks what is too hard. The point is that he should have obeyed Christ, but didn't. Despite his superficial attention to the commandments, he was not willing to do the really hard things. You are very right that child molesting is not the only sin in the world. It's a particularly harmful sin; I have talked kids out of killing themselves because of "boylovers." But it is not the only sin. Many wealthy white-collar church-goers sin every day in ways that are not even illegal. They foreclose on the houses of the poor. They sell things to people who cannot afford them. They create ads which are misleading. I think it's a horrible sin that ordinary men - men who are not pedophiles - mostly have no interest in being camp counselors or giving back to young people. That doesn't mean YOUR sin is not a sin. The company of the whole world (for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God) does not make YOU any less a sinner. You can be forgiven. What you can't do is sit with one hand in the cookie jar and crumbs still on your face and say, "I'm sorry, I repent, I expect to be forgiven." I'm with Comfort. I find this whole line of "God wants me to hang around boys and love them" to be just that - a line. I understand that you feel boys bring joy into your life. I have heard heroin users talk about how heroin brings joy into their lives, too. Just because it feels good doesn't necessarily mean it must be right. You have the power to do great good, but you have an even greater power to do harm. Let someone whose reason is not clouded by desire try to help the boys. You find someone else to help, like an old homeless woman, who doesn't arouse you. True charity is not something you do to get a rise. |
