'personally, I place my faith in God himself - not a book, not the cross' How do you know what God is like? Why do you believe certain things about him and not others? To me it seems like you are playing the traditional 20th century game of creating the god you want to believe in out of your own preferences, rather than relating to the God who has revealed himself 'In many and diverse manners...by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son'. It's very comforting to have such a household god - but it isn't going to do you a lot of good when you meet up with the real thing. There is a narrow path that leads to life, and the bible offers us some indication as to the route that is involved. To claim to be following the God who is revealed in the bible but ignore the rules of life that he, as the creator, has laid down for our own good is risky :-) To pick and choose the bits you like is to claim a greater degree of spiritual discernment than the writers of the bible..... |
