Humor in the Bible

Yes, I too think that the Jews have a better sense of humor about God than Christians usually do. The God of the Bible is not aloof or cold or power-hungry; God is very interested in people and loving towards us. I read the Bible a lot, and I sometimes wonder why other Christians fail to see the humor and sarcasm that is present in a lot of it. God is not stuffy and stingy; God has a very good sense of humor! (Sometimes I try to picture the Bible stories as if they were occuring on Seinfeld, or something like that!) It doesn't take away from his majesty or holiness, but God can afford to be funny sometimes, since he did create the universe. He's not going to offend himself by cracking a joke now and then! If the Jews can find humor in the scriptures, why can't we? They had the Bible before we did. |
