In Gloria Estefan's song, "Christmas Through Your Eyes," she sings: "Till I had you I didn't know That I was missing out Had to grow up and see the world Through different shades of doubt Give me one more chance to dream again One more chance to feel again through your young heart If only for one day let me try." WOWZA! Indeed, I have desired this "feeling" to experience life through the boys I have known. She continues, "I wanna see Christmas through your eyes I want everything to be the way it used to be Back to being a child again thinking the world was mine Back to being a child again thinking the world was kind I wanna see Christmas through your eyes." Yes! There is something about a child's belief that the world is kind that I find attractive. Thus, when a child (usually around 12) begins to forget, I feel so compelled to remind them that despite the imperfections all around that their heart must remain kind. She continues: "I see the rain and you see the rainbow hiding in the clouds Never afraid to let your love show; won't you show me how? Wanna learn how to believe again Find the innocence in me again through your young heart Help me find a way, help me try." And we wonder why we seek companionship with boys. Can we see the rainbow when clouds are all around? Can we not be afraid and let our love shine despite the knowledge we have about this world? Can we find the innocence in our own hearts? Can boys liberate us to remember and to help us? Can we help them not to forget the sparkle in their eyes? Can we help them to always keep "Christmas in their eyes?" Is this the reason we have been given this gift of love? ~Once a Boy |
