'Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve' as the aphorism so elegantly expresses it.

God's pattern in creation is for one women to marry one man and together they will form 'one flesh'.

The argument is that there is a complementarity in the natures of men and women that achieve rightness by means of marriage to each other, but that any other form of coupling, either hetrosexual outside marriage, or homosexual even within a 'covenanted' relationship is wrong. Which is why it is a curse of God to be given up to lusting after one another (Rom 1 v 26f passim). An element in this is the clear difference in role in the marriage - there is a different list of duties given to the wife than to the husband in the New Testament.

As with any theological doctrine it cannot be disproved by the existance of apparent counter examples of a healthy, godly, gay relationship; this is an outworking of the doctrine of 'common grace' - that God does bless indiscriminately in this world, and not just in strict accordance with the worth of our lives, not least because if He did, we'd have ALL been blown away long ago.

I admit that this is not a very fashionable or popular line of theology in these days of everyone claiming equality. It is however one that I believe does underpin the view of the bible, though it is not easy to PROVE solidly from it. But then as the view of the majority is the view of those on the broad road to destruction, it is not a surprise that the Christian world view is seldom fashionable!!

Does that make sense to anybody else?
