Ridiculous, perhaps....

Perhaps it is ridiculous. I suppose I see that being "with another" as losing one's independence, losing the ability to spend more time with God. It is written that we should "Love the Lord our God with all our heart and soul." It is indeed impossible to do this always; however, I would find it even more impossible by being involved with someone. By being with another, our focus is placed on the other person. Marriage may just be an illusion of security. When a marriage crumbles due to disagreements or due to death, it again becomes clear that there is truly only one thing that we can truly depend on - God. Instead of dealing with the lonliness and darkness, we usually run to another (another woman, a child, a parent), yet I think God wants us to run to Him.

Unfortunately, instead of running to Him, I have fallen many times in my life by "looking for another" or drinking or focusing my attention on something I can control like writing or earning a college degree. In the end, I am begining to think we should stop running and spend more time with God. In recent years, I definitely feel a strong need to get involved in a relationship. In fact, I want a family and all, yet I am unsure how gaining a family will increase my time fufilling God's demand of "Loving the Lord our God with all our heart and soul." Can these co-exist? How does one please God?
