Fire and Sunlight

Here's another metaphor for the difference between lust and love, that has helped me. I swear, I thought this one up myself, but perhaps someone else has stated it before. I wouldn't be surprised, it's fairly straightforward. :)

Sexual desire is hot, right? Or like a passion that we feel inside? Well, what are you going to do with heat?

Here are two things you can do: you can either get burned, or be warmed by it.

Now, the sun is a really hot ball of flaming gas. It's so hot, that it is the only thing in our solar system that is fully self-sustained by nuclear fusion. Let's pretend that is like sex.

Now, if you get too close to the sun, you will be burned up, into a crispy critter. Barbecue time. That is fire. That is what sex is like, when it is lusty. It might feel good for a short while, to be so hot, but before long you've been burned, and destroyed by the heat. That is why lust is to be avoided.

But if you stand far enough back from the sun (say 93 million miles), it just feels warm and toasty, like warm fuzzies. It feels good on your skin. It keeps you warm inside and out. That is what true love feels like. And just like going out sunbathing can feel really good once and a while, so can having sex when you are in love.

I hope this helps.

I guess someone did tell this story before. I think it is called the Myth of Icarus. You know, the ancient Greeks really had this boylove thing figured out. I am convinced that if we just put our minds to it, we can learn what they knew, and get it working again.
