It's better to be single. Paul also added that it's not for everyone, but he did say it was better -- so I'd have to agree with your pastor at this point. Practice purity in this area, and try your best (with the help of God's Spirit) to separate yourself from any lustful thoughts or actions of the flesh. To do this will involve keeping your nose in the Book and maintaining a steady relationship with the Lord through unceasing prayer. Try it, and see how God responds. I honestly feel that you'll see a greater (and quicker) manifestation of the Lord in this direction, if you seek with your whole heart and go expecting to have the Lord reveal Himself to you. This is an even greater step of faith -- to seek Him alone while going it alone.
